Bandung, 19/11/2025 – In a dedicated effort to bridge the gap between modern technology and education, the Communication Science Department recently held a transformative community service program at SMPN 2 Cipatat. The event, centered on “How to Use AI for Teachers,” aimed to equip educators with practical Artificial Intelligence skills to enhance their teaching methodologies and administrative efficiency.

The workshop, led by two esteemed lecturers from the department, *Inggar Prayoga, M.I.Kom.,* and *Donny Reza, M.Kom.,*, was met with great enthusiasm from the teachers and staff of SMPN 2 Cipatat. The initiative reflects the department’s commitment to the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (the three pillars of higher education), which includes education, research, and community service.

The session began by demystifying AI, moving beyond the hype to showcase its practical applications in a classroom setting. Speakers Inggar Prayoga and Donny Reza emphasized that AI is not a replacement for human educators but a powerful assistant that can streamline tedious tasks and foster creative learning environments. “Our goal was to show that AI can be a teacher’s best partner,” stated Inggar Prayoga, M.I.Kom., an expert in digital communication. “From generating lesson plan ideas and creating engaging learning materials to automating grading for simple quizzes, these tools can give teachers back valuable time. Time they can then invest in what truly matters: mentoring and inspiring their students.”

The workshop covered a range of topics, including:

AI for Content Creation: Utilizing AI models like ChatGPT and Gemini to brainstorm ideas, draft worksheets, and develop case studies.
AI for Visual Aids: Introduction to AI-powered image and presentation generators to create visually compelling teaching materials.
Ethical Use of AI: A crucial discussion on the responsible integration of AI, focusing on academic integrity, data privacy, and the importance of teaching students critical thinking in the age of AI.

The event was designed to be highly interactive, providing teachers with hands-on experience. Donny Reza, M.Kom., who specializes in information systems, guided the participants through practical exercises, ensuring they left with not just theoretical knowledge but also actionable skills.

“Technology is only as good as the user’s ability to wield it,” explained Donny Reza, M.Kom. “We wanted to ensure every teacher felt confident navigating these platforms. Seeing their ‘aha!’ moments as they discovered how an AI tool could solve a problem they’ve faced for years was incredibly rewarding.”

The response from the SMPN 2 Cipatat community was overwhelmingly positive. The school’s Principal, Drs. H. Ahmad Fauzi, M.Pd., expressed his gratitude for the initiative.

“We are immensely thankful to the Communication Science Department for this invaluable training,” said Principal Ahmad Fauzi. “In today’s digital era, it is crucial for our educators to stay ahead of the curve. This workshop has not only provided our teachers with new skills but has also ignited a passion for innovation within our school. We hope this is the beginning of a continued partnership.”

The successful community service program at SMPN 2 Cipatat underscores the Communication Science Department’s role as a catalyst for positive change beyond the university campus. By empowering educators, the department is investing in the future of countless students.

The event concluded with a certificate-giving ceremony and a promise of future collaborations. The Communication Science Department remains steadfast in its mission to apply academic expertise for tangible societal benefit, one workshop at a time.
